I remember I had a similar problem in a Webcam driver, IIRC the memory
used for the transfer has to be alloc by kmalloc in the driver.

You can look at ipw2100.sf.net and/or contact them.
They use hostap and plan to make a 'generic' 802.11 stack for linux in
collaboration with hostap and others.
