I had the same problem - for me it turned out there was a conflict with 
the NVIDIA drivers + ACPI... Turning off ACPI seemed to do the trick; or 
just not booting into X.

Its such a pain though because the times my wireless card is most useful 
is when there's no points to plug into, so i'm on battery. Guess what 
else goes away when i turn off ACPI :)

They should have it fixed soon. The driver team is doing a Fantastic job 
sofar :)
