that's weird!

When I go wardriving I just load the module, do ifconfig eth1 up and then fire
up kismet (kismet-cvs) and the program puts the card in monitor mode, and yes I
have channel hoping disabled.

Perhaps some change was made on the driver? You're problem is very odd indeed
