I can't verify this with the driver of 20040127.

My AP is on channel 11. When I do this:

iwconfig eth0 mode managed
iwconfig eth0 channel 1 (not 11!)
iwconfig eth0 mode monitor
... now iwconfig eth0 shows channel 1, ok.

After that I start kismet and it does NOT find the AP.
But if I configure the card for channel 11 above it finds the AP just fine.

Is there another way how I could verify that it actually is hopping channels or 
not? So far it seems that it doesn't.
