In fact this problem might be solved. Because when I added the caching stuff, I introduced a bug. The problem was that when device was in sleep mode, we were not able to wake it up with oid set/get. Thus it is possible that the guy got a forever sleeping device (card  goes into sleep mode before it is iwconfigured). And if the 2 pci bytes are related in any way to power management, all this could explain his problem... (ie as a side effect of setting the 2 bytes, his device went into sleep mode to soon)

I'm not sure all if this is really clear...

I think we should forget this problem until we get some other user reports.
