just to add some information to this thread:

I've got an toshiba 2590xDVD notebook from the last century with a
WG511 as well; and for me those 2 pci writes are necessary as well, as
otherwise the card freezes quite soon when being on battery power (I
don't have ACPI enabled, since linux regards it as being too ancient;
but I have APM enabled, and the suspend/resume support I coded works
great for me (btw, I didn't hear from others, whether it works for
them as well) -- at least much better than some other drivers, which
fail miserably :-(
