Maybe I should be a bit more clear.  Prior to "ifconfig up" is performed, iwconfig is used 
to set the ESSID.  Once "ifconfig up" is issued, the WG511 cycles through all channels 
looking at APs (it does this indefinately). 
 
At some point in the future,  I re-issue  the iwconfig to set the ESSID, and finally it locks 
onto my AP. 
 
So, if I understand correctly.  Any ESSID settings made prior to the interface being 
brought up will be purposely forgotten/ignored.  The ESSID iwconfig setting must be 
made after the interface is brought up?
