[Prism54-users] newbie questions

hi,

i'm trying to install a netgear wg511 on a debian sid with 2.6.4 kernel. 
I patched the kernel, recompiled it, installed  hotplug, wireless-tools 
and pcmcia-cs.
Dmesg showed me, that for eth1 the prism54 driver was found and lspci -v 
also found the device. But no lights at the device are on and iwconfig 
says "NOT READY" when typing iwconfig eth1.
Can anyone help me?
Is this the right place to pose questions like this?
