I can report that the new code from December 18th fixes this issue - the 
card works just fine! Many thanks indeed!!

There's still one issue, though: With the new code, I need acpi=off to get
the card to work. I get a message "hotplug reports a wrong irq. Working
around", but it still doesn't work after that.

(With the older code, it would work with and without acpi, but with the
problems mentioned above.)
