You're both right, and i was blind... I've contacted Chris Wedgwood who
directed me to a bk repo containing an "official" 802.11 stack for
linux:
bk://gkernel.bkbits.net/wireless-2.6

Is this what you're referring to, Feyd? -- do you know how usable it is,
would you have any advice as to where to start ?

Now that i'm familiar with madwifi (and the 80211 stack is not the
principal dvelopment bottleneck), I think I'll stick to it until i sort
out some more fields (Todo list to come !), and the driver can work
reliably enough in STA and IBSS mode, then i'll make the switch to
hostap and commit to SVN.
