I put it into a windows machine and then into a linux box (not at home,
this is why it took so long)

To release the tension: IT WORKS!

2.6.11 vanilla kernel with svn version 529 prism54 driver for an smc2802

This would explain the strange mixed works/doesnt work reports from
various users.

If it still works when I come home, it will be perfect.
