The driver seemed to lose the necessary information... all of the digits in the
MAC address went to 0's, which I hope only means the firmware loader failed. 
Nonetheless, I exchanged the card for a Belkin card with a Broadcom chipset.  I
really would like to see this driver continued, but I am afraid I no longer have
a card with which to check it.  I appreciate the help, though.  I have always
liked the Linux community's sense of "social responsibility" to make sure their
products work.  If the rest of the software industry would follow suit, we would
be out of work!

P.S.:  It was the March 7 driver that I tried when I finally did in the MAC address.
