Try an Intel chipset, they are said to least buggy regarding PCI. When I had the
SMC2802W in a Via KT333 board, I experienced the lockups requiring powercycle
too. I didnt investigate it (after my experience with bt878 on Via I rather
switched the mb for an Intel 815 one), but it is likely the same problem. With
the intel chipset it never happened.
