This problem has gone away with the latest hotplug and kernel. From
correspondence with prism54 people, it seems it was a problem specific to the
cardbus bridge on the IBM T20.

I'm closing my bug, as the latest kernel and subsystem utilities fix the problems. 

It wasn't a prism54 issue afterall.
