I do not think this is really that important. By default the card will
just try to assoc, big whoop. This is what other wireless drivers do by def=
ault too.

This is a good point. But then again this is what other drivers do too.

IIRC another reason against this behaviour was that it delays the load
of the module by the time of load of the firmware. Other than that, I
believe the major reason against this behaviour was that loading
firmware @ probe time would make it impossible to reload the firmware
later if the driver was built-in. As I pointed before, however, this is
not a problem if we also load the firmware @ open too.
